Fueling Up: The Game-Changing Power of Conscious Eating

From Fatherhood to Full-Throttle Energy: My Journey with Food

Did You Know? The Foods You Eat Can Either Boost or Break Your Day.

Ever found yourself just dragging feet even after that supposedly heavy meal? I've been there, especially when I first dived into fatherhood in 2020. Exhaustion was at its peak. I needed energy, not just to work but to play with my little one. That got me reflecting on the food I consumed.

Its Not Just About the Taste:

We often find ourselves giving in to the siren call of taste, especially in this fast-food era. But here's the catch, are those juicy burgers or that carbonated sweetness worth the post-meal slump? It's not just about filling up the stomach; it's about fueling up for life.

The Energetic Shift:

Nutrition isn't just about the long game; avoiding diseases or adding years to life. It's about feeling alive every day. It's about that energy after a meal, ready to conquer what's next.

How to Make It Happen:

  • Greens First: Foods like spinach are rich in iron, a key element for energy production. The trick? Begin your meals with green goodness.

  • Add Protein: Whether it's chicken, tuna, or salmon, they keep you satiated, maintain blood sugar levels, and repair muscles. No wonder we feel so charged up after a protein-rich meal!

  • Fats, The Right Ones: Avocados, they're not just Instagrammable, they’re brain boosters.

Decoding Sugars:

Natural sugars in fruits like apples or berries are coupled with fiber, which means energy without the crash. Think of them as nature's candy, sweet yet beneficial.

Avoiding Foods that Steal Your Energy:

It's simple; some foods drain you out. They spike your sugar levels, only to crash them down. My realization? That drowsiness post a meal wasn’t "food coma"; it was my blood sugar throwing tantrums. So, I started dodging foods and drinks that wreaked havoc on my energy, like sugary snacks and sodas.

Making the Switch:

Alright, here’s the deal. Foods that fueled me up included:

  • Spinach, avocados, red onions, and cucumbers and proteins like chicken or salmon. Simple, clean, and effective.

  • I’d toss them into a salad, sprinkle some olive oil, and boom, an energy-packed meal ready to go.

But why does this matter?

Because when you’re fueled right, everything changes. Your focus sharpens, your mood elevates, and you’re just... better.

Challenge:

Tune in to your body's signals. For the next month, after every meal, take a moment. How do you feel? Energized or drained? The patterns you observe will be enlightening. Your food is your fuel, and when you start treating it as such, the game changes. Not only will you feel more alive, but you’ll also have that spark, that zest for life.

Quote

"Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food."

-Hippocrates

Food is more than something we put intoour body, Its a source of energy. The next time you’re about to dig into a meal, remember: you're not just eating; you're fueling. Choose wisely. Stay charged, and let’s make every meal count.
